“兰州大学与中国科学院近代物理研究所共建核物理系学术报告”第二十九场
——Halcrow Christopher James博士

  应核科学与技术学院张鸿飞教授邀请,英国剑桥大学博士Halcrow Christopher James将于2017年11月10日来我校开展学术交流活动并做学术报告。

  报告题目:Skyrmions as nuclei
    报告时间:2017年11月10日15:00
    报告地点:医学校区核学楼321室

报告摘要:

Skyrmions provide a unique way of studying nuclei. They are not particles in the usual sense; instead they are solitons which owe their existence and stability to the topology of the system. I will try to show why certain topologies can give rise to solitons and why they are stable to vacuum-decay. I shall then introduce Skyrmions and show how they are related to nuclei. The model is somewhat novel and includes some unusual proposals about nuclei. For example, in the Skyrme model, the alpha-particle has cubic symmetry and protons can sometimes scatter at 90°. I will try to explain these results and give an overview of recent work on the model.
